During the years 2001 until 2010, when Greece entered the crisis period, passenger car registrations hit record highs. That decade recorded 2,691,078 registrations, with an average of 269,000 per year. Specifically, in 2004, the year of the Olympic Games, registrations reached approximately 290,000, slightly lower than in 2000. Although, thoughts of reinstating the scrapping measure stumbled in April 2002, as costs were deemed excessive
