TEOCAR S.A. had ranked 26th among all Greek factories in terms of turnover and among the first in terms of profits. That year, TEOCAR S.A. had reported earnings of 1.6 billion drachmas.
Back in the early 1980s, Nissan had proposed to Greek entrepreneurs to jointly establish an assembly plant larger than the one in Volos, but the Greek law and the State, which requested a majority stake in the investment, discouraged the Japanese who eventually established the plant in Great Britain.
Quality control circles, the first in Greece, were being implemented at
the TEOCAR S.A. plant since 1983, while workers received continuous training. In fact, a technical school was founded in 1984 for training personnel
prior to hiring them.
