Publisher’s Note
The twin volumes at hand - in Greek and English - were compiled for the 60th anniversary of the partnership between Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. and Nissan Motor Corporation. The purpose is to celebrate the 60 years of Nissan in Greece, as it was 1961 when Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. undertook the Datsun representation. Purely for methodology purposes, the history of Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. is structured into nine chapters, spanning from 1898, the year of birth of Nicholaos J. Theocarakis, to 2021. We follow the company’s growth in correlation with how the automotive sector was unfolded in Greece - therefore in relation to the economic and social processes, collective attitudes and developments in the car market during every decade. Exceptions are the first chapter, which covers the years from 1898 to 1960, and
the last two chapters, which are dedicated to two important initiatives. One is the emblematic for Greece TEOCAR S.A. plant in Volos, and the other the involvement of Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. for more than 30 years in motorcar races in our country, through its Racing Department, Nissan Sporteam.
Despite the fact that the structure into periods and the dates is arbitrary and frequently the advances during a decade are the outcome of events that took place in the previous decade, our choice of chapters allows us to describe with higher precision
the atmosphere of each period, and accurately place in time the activities, initiatives and actions of Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. in each case. That is, the dates setting out the decades are used not as intersections, but primarily to indicate the continuity of the journey of Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. Accordingly, the concise informative comments
of historical context, serve as milestones of the evolution of the automotive sector in our country - the treasure box of history never opens with a single key. The future of
