The collaboration between Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. and Nissan Motor Corporation marks its 60th anniversary in 2021. It is exactly this story, of a successful and creative joint journey, always with respect for the human element, that we wish to record and preserve in the pages of the publication you are holding in your hands. This is a collaboration that began in 1961, when Nicholaos J. Theocarakis, together with his sons, Ioannis and Vasilios Theocarakis, undertook the distribution of Datsun cars in Greece, during an era when the automotive market was expanding in a country that was on a path of remarkable growth. Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. is the first official representation of the Japanese automotive company in Europe. This fact demonstrates the solid foundations on which
Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. relied from early on for its eventual growth.
Credibility, quality, and eventually the cutting-edge technology of the Datsun/Nissan cars, our constant care for consumer services, our trust in the skills of the company’s human resources, the continuous training of the staff, the initiatives to reward innovative ideas, the respect for the environment, sustainable development and mobility were, and continue to be, the guiding principles of our policy. Prudence, foresight and boldness, which are characteristics of the company’s choices since its very first steps, allowed us to leave our strong mark during these sixty years. Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A., originally a family business and now a large family of employees and partners, with a common vision and shared goals, inextricably linked its history with the very beginning and proliferation of automobiles in our country, allowing us to celebrate in 2020 the sales record of nearly 650,000 Nissan cars in the Greek market.
The operation of the TEOCAR S.A. plant in Volos, an investment of 100% Greek funds in early 1980, where more than 170,000 cars were produced until 1995, is a proof precisely
of this insight, boldness and faith in innovation, as well as the excellent relations of trust and cooperation with Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. This model assembly plant, according to the Japanese, where innovative automation and production methods were applied by Greek hands, is for Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. a significant chapter in its history, and a “child” of Ioannis Theocarakis. At the same time, it made an important contribution to the evolution of the automotive sector in Greece, while it dynamically positioned Greece on both the European and the world automotive map.
