 In 1971, according to data by the Hellenic Statistical Authority,
there were 264,068 passenger cars in circulation in Greece,
out of a total of 1,305,850 vehicles. By 1979 that number had increased to 822,034. Nearly half of them were in the Urban Agglomerate
of Athens: out of 1,305,850 vehicles, 606,382 were in the capital
area, i.e. 46.6%. In the case of passenger cars, 465,450
were registered in the capital, i.e. 56.6%.
