(6,352 cars sold in three years), followed by the 160J Violet (1978-1981, 8,027 cars), the first Sunny (1978-1980, 6,796 cars) and the Cherry N10 (1979-1983, 12,294 cars). In fact, 1977 and 1978 were years of recovery for the car market, before the great crisis of 1979. In 1978, for instance, we had 118,814 passenger
car registrations while in 1979 there were 88,372 registrations. With the decade nearly to an end, the new Pickup was imported, selling 38,942 vehicles until 1986, as well as, the new version of the Bluebird - selling 7,784 cars until 1984.
Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A. held the lead in the pickup truck category between 1976 and 1980, as we have already pointed out, ranking first in sales - which doubled within five years - verifying the quality of the products, as well as the company’s prudent choices and commercial policy.
The company thus continued its expansion in the automotive market, due to its products, which now catered to wider preferences, in almost every category - for example, ‘Patrol’ was imported back in 1964, while in 1976 the company also made
sure to import the 260Z, despite the informal ban on Japanese cars that year. The vertical integration of the facilities and the emphasis always put on after-sale services, are two additional factors that contributed to the company’s success. Furthermore, the dealer network expanded rapidly - halfway through the next decade, there were 135 dealerships and 80 maintenance and repair shops. As for the company itself, it employed more than 1,300 people, including employees in Volos and in its subsidiaries.

the ratio was 1 car per 20 residents.
