of used cars, which had negative effects on the environment and evident implications on road accidents.
In 1978, there were 152,660 new registrations (119,814 passenger cars). Two years later, in 1980, only 35,732 passenger cars were registered. These figures clearly demonstrate the impact of the measures adopted in 1979. The decade ended, in terms of registrations, in about the same manner as it began since in 1971 there were only 32,000 registrations.
The challenges for Nic. J. Theocarakis S.A., in light of the new decade, were numerous and complex. Especially since in 1980, when the plant in Volos started its operation at full throttle, both Nicholaos Theocarakis and his son Ioannis Theocarakis passed away, within a few months from each other - and the reins of the group were taken over by Nicholaos’ other son, Vasilios Theocarakis.
