The foundations of the plant were established in January 1979. Volos was a carefully selected choice of location, since it has a port and easy access to the National Highway, towards Athens and Thessaloniki, facilitating the supply
of components and parts in all directions. The city had a specialised workforce, as did other nearby cities, such as Larissa. In addition, it belonged to the so-called third zone, which meant that the government offered incentives to industries to operate in the area.
