The land, on which the plant was established, had an area of 264,000 square meters, 16,500 square meters of which were covered by the plant’s facilities. The facilities gradually expanded and eventually covered an area of 35,000 square meters. Only Steyer ELVO’s facilities covered a larger area in terms of facilities.
The assembly line was put into operation in February
of 1980 with the 1-ton Datsun Pickup 1500, followed shortly by the Datsun Cherry in two versions, 1.0 and 1.2 litres, as well as
the 100 NX in 1991. During the first year of the plant’s operation, 4,685 cars, mainly light trucks, were assembled, with the car bodies manufactured in our country. It should be noted that in 1981 the credit policy for cars assembled in Greece had already changed, allowing them to be sold partially on credit, as opposed to imported cars. Law 363 "Regulation of taxes on passenger cars (imported and manufactured domestically) for private use" was enacted, which aimed to replace imports with cars assembled in Greece.
