1987-1990
In 1987, there were 1,370,000 vehicles in circulation across the country, 56% of them were in Athens. That same year, our country ranked first among EEC Member States in terms of light-truck traffic. In 1990, the total number of vehicles in circulation had reached 1,754,000 - 60% of these cars were in use for more than 10 years. According to the 1981 census, 3,027,090 people lived in the Athens capital area. In the next census (1991), Athens’ population had grown by approximately 45,000 residents.
